Exploring and Making Memories

I have mentioned before that my husband works on Saturday's, so we make the most of our time together on Sunday.  Exploring our state is always fun for us.  Like my post here about First Sunday in Pittsboro.  I am excited to share with you some other fun places to explore when in NC.
My mom and I love to catch dinner and a show in Durham.  The DPAC has some of the best shows I have seen.  Their Broadway series has been something my mom and I have enjoyed together.  Sharing an ice cold Coca-Cola™ while seeing an amazing play or musical has become our Mother-Daughter go to.
Mom and I swing through CVS for an ice cold Coke before hitting the road.  We love picking out our Coca-Cola with the fun names.  This particular outing mom was 'Angel' while I was 'Claudia'.  It's fun to step outside our normal lives and go on an adventure.  This year share a coke has not only first names but also last names.  It was fun checking out what names were available.
Tips on Exploring
1. Stop at CVS and stock up on Ice Cold Coca-Cola
2. Pick a location you haven't been to, even if it's just for lunch
3. Be open to detours
4. Try new things (like Fish Taco's)
Since the weekend was Memorial Day my husband and I had 3 days together.  These are bitter sweet for us because we spend more time together.  We decided to go 'sploring' and check out a lake and camping site he saw while driving to Greensboro the other day.  The lake was big with both swimming and fishing.  We did not swim, just checking it out for future adventures.  I am not a camping kinda gal so my husband finds ways to entice me to want to camp.  Going small with a location close to home is a good start.  We grabbed some ice cold cokes while driving around from CVS.  Saturday was the first hot day in a few weeks so having an ice cold Coca-Cola was so nice.

After the Lake we made a detour to Saxapahaw for lunch at the General Store.  I had heard they have amazing food and have been wanting to go.  The menu had items for everyone.  The hubby suggested we try Fish Taco's.  Neither of us had tried them before.  Feeling adventurous we got 4 catfish taco's.  OMG they were amazing!  We both loved them.  On the way home we were discussing how easily it could have gone the other way and turned us off Fish Taco's forever.
After lunch we checked out the Butcher shop and then the Brewery located in the center.  It was so cool to watch the butcher prepare the meat.  Shopping local is something I am passionate about and finding this gem made me happy.  They had information on all the farms the meat came from.  Knowing where your food comes from is important along with helping a local farm.
All in all Saturday was a great day exploring with Ice Cold Coca-Cola.  Of course we stopped at our local bakery for some homemade biscuits and picked up some flowers.
For more idea's on fun summer outings with Coca-Cola here.  Like an outdoor movie, or picnic in the park.
Some places around NC we have discovered during our explorations:
Haw River Kayaking
Saxapahaw General Store

  2. I love days spent exploring the local area! DPAC is a favorite of mine as well, and I've only ever been to Saxapahaw for concerts but it looks like such a nice area that I'd love to spend a day there exploring and kayaking on the river.
