Farmer's Market

I love my local Farmer's Market.  From April to September they open at 7am, which for this early riser is perfect.  The temp's are still cool and there are very few people there.  Also, the selection is large.  I have my regular farms / people I purchase from.  Mrs. Margaret is my go to flower lady, Keith has the best plants (tomato and herbs), and the selection of veggies is abundant.  I usually take a lap around to see what is available and the average price.  Then I shop from the Farmer's who are low on customers.  It makes me feel good to help a local farm.  Plus the veggies taste a little better to me.
This past weekend a friend ended up in the ER.  She is a single mom, so I went to the Farmer's Market and picked up some items to make her lunch.  There is nothing worse than feeling bad and coming home from the ER and having to cook!  Between both my parents, my husband, and step-father our family has spent way too much time in the Hospital.  I know all too well how welcome a home cooked meal is!  So I made a tossed salad, fresh watermelon, and a Sausage Casserole.

I purchased some small sweet Italian sausages, boiled them, then put them on the grill.  In the casserole I add cooked pasta, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, large cut green pepper, and onion.  I place all items in a casserole dish and put the sausage on top, then bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.  The juices from the sausage blend with the tomato base and it is amazing.  Plus super easy to heat up. (comment if you would like a full post on the recipe)
The fresh flowers from Mrs. Margaret are always pretty and last over a week.  I love filling my otherwise dark home with fresh flowers.  I carry two things in my car when I go to the market, one is a Rubbermaid container in my trunk to hold any new plants, the second is an empty cup to hold my flowers upright so they won't get ruined on the ride home.

Also, I always carry my bag (here) that my SIL had made for me in the Congo.  It's perfect!  I can wear it as a cross body.  It holds an astounding amount of items.  Plus it's stylish!  I am seriously thinking about asking her to have extra made for me that I can sell.
Would you purchase an Ethically made Market Bag?

Being this post is focused on my outfit with pictures I thought I would talk about this tank!  I own it in 3 colors and love wearing it.  It's perfect for work with a light weight cardigan over it.  It also goes so great with shorts for a little more dressy-casual look.

  4. OK Your local Farmers' Market sounds so great. So good you help local farmers and that you cook for sick friends at the hospital too. That meal sounds great, I need a recipe. I love how you always dress up your shorts. I can see why you have that tank in three colors/prints. It is beautiful and so is the laser-cut bag. =)
