The Goathouse

Sometimes an event happens that touches your soul.
My visit to The Goathouse Cat Refuge did just that, touched my soul.
Siglinda started the Goathouse from a childhood dream.  One where cats wouldn't be confined to cages.

Pictured above right is Siglinda.  She is such a sweet kind lady.

The cages are for new cats to be introduced.  Once they see they process at The Goathouse they are let out to roam as they wish.
The domestic cats approach the humans and will follow you around.
This cute kitty stretched and 'showed off' for me.
Meet Kiernan!  He came home with us.  His first night/day was good.  On the second day he decided to explore.
Left: K -Who's that Cat?  Me - Silly that's you in the mirror.
Right: Woo What was that noise?
Left: Not sure what they are but they are big (aka dogs)
Right: Watching reality TV with my new mama!

The Goathouse is an amazing place.  They don't just take cats.  There were goats, dogs, etc.  All are kept in different parts.  The refuge is set way back in the woods and it is SO peaceful there.  The cats get along and allow the humans to hang out.  There are many Ferrell cats who aren't able to be adopted so they just live at The Goathouse.  I am so lucky to have found them and be able to adopt an adult cat.  Kiernan is about 10 years old and never had a home of his own.  How sad is that!!!  He now has his Forever home.

Please consider donating.  Even a few dollars makes a big difference!!

Thank you for reading and baring with me with picture overloads!

    1. They are so funny and loving! We love all 5 of our animals (2 dogs and 3 cats). Don't know when it happened but we found 5 was a good number for us! When our older female dog passed and then our ferell cat (who was raised by her) ran off we were down to 3 and it felt off for everyone. We adopted a 5 yr old female dog and then added Kiernan. Now things feel normal again. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. So cute, Lee!!! Adopting a pet is the best feeling!

  3. Lee, this brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you! I too have two kitties from the Goathouse. Our family lost our beloved Firelight at 2 1/2 years to cancer after months at the NC Vet School. After bottle feeding his litter of 5 from 10-11 days old to 8 weeks, I fell so deeply in love with my first orange tabby. I was set for the next 20 years from age 48-68 yrs old. BUT.... I am not a volunteer at the GH and adopted two orangies, Finn and Filomena "Mena". Even though Finn was diagnosed with Coronavirus before 2 yrs and his official adoption date as my foster, he has his forever home and is loved dearly by his momma. Thank you for giving Kiernan his forever home and his forever MOM, YOU are the BEST!! xoxox

    1. Thank you so much!!! It was great to meet you this past weekend. He has made our home complete and settled in very nicely!
      xo, Lee

  4. Congratulations on your new family member!! He's adorable!!!

    1. Thank you very much Judy! He is such a sweet boy who loves being pet.

  5. thank you for giving Kiernan a home, Lee, and for your kind words about the refuge. it's a magical place and you described it beautifully. mariska

    1. Mariska! Thank you. I feel like you were the one to make this happen and your support through the process was amazing!

  6. Lee, thank you so much! You gave me a great joy to be able to see Kiernan in his new home. I can see that he is happy! He was so hurt when his brother was adopted, for quite a while he wasn't eating and he had those sad eyes...He was waiting for me, every night when I go to check on the kitties at the refuge just to have a minute of personal attention, he knew I loved him! Then he would go away because all the other cats would come to get a kiss and be petted... Keep sending photos, please, and give him a sweet kiss for me!

    1. Siglinda - thank you for all you do! The kitties are such a joy to be around and being able to welcome Kiernan into our home has been a blessing.
